Will our relationship last without the 'touch'?

Vinayana met Ayush on a social media site, and they formed an instant connection, but she had doubts that the long-distance relationship really works for them. She shares her story with Love Matters India.

Vinayana (26) is a content writer based out of Delhi and a person with a disability.

That friend request

It was one of my lazy days, I was sitting on my sofa with my phone, surfing the internet. A friend request pops up, it was from a guy named Ayush. I found him to be intelligent and not like other useless people on social media, who just want to flirt. We talked about many disability-related issues that matter to both of us, as we both were persons with disabilities. At first, he was just about praising my writings on social media but later we talked more

I got to know about his habits, and his flaws and that he has a really sexy smile. We started talking on a daily basis and we never really got bored with each other. That was really a positive sign.

I was in Delhi and he was in Bangalore, but still, we both had something in us that kept us going. We kept talking on WhatsApp and Skype calls for hours. We got to know about each other's disabilities and what are the challenges we face in our day-to-day life.

Playing safe

This kind of feeling was very similar to what I had ever dreamt about. One night, during our conversations, he called me one of the closest friends that he had ever had. Also, how he is able to share some really personal things with me.

He told me that he had a crush on me and wanted to make me his girlfriend. I was shocked. Wasn’t it too early? I mean we have not even met once!

I played safe and told him that we should first try to understand and get to know each other more and definitely meet too. It is only then we could take our friendship to the next step. He got my point.

The new job opportunity

A couple of months down the line, I felt attracted to him too. However, since I had said no to him earlier, I didn't know how to bring that topic up again. We couldn't spend even an hour without talking to each other.

One day, he told me that he has a new job opportunity in Australia and he asked me what should he do. He didn't want to get away from me and I didn't want to stop him from achieving success in life. I was happy for him but my heart ached because he was going to be farther away from me. And we hadn't even met yet.

A difficult stage

It was a difficult time for us, as we were still getting to know each other. I still wasn’t sure about my feelings for him but I liked him. We still needed time with each other, we still had a long way to go.

I had made up my mind that I won't get involved with someone online but there was something special in him. I didn't know if this long-distance friendship or relationship really works for us. I mean we won't be able to touch or feel each other at all! It’s going to be tough.

Or like everyone in a long-distance relationship, would we have a breakup?

From one long-distance relationship to another?

We both talked about it and discussed that we should go with the flow.  No stress. We both really cared about each other and we really wanted to stick to each other. We promised that we will meet each other at least once before he leaves for the foreign land.

If we are able to continue with our talks and likes for each other, we could plan our future together. What assured me was that we were now too in a long-distance relationship and we were happy. What we had to really look forward to was if our relationship would pass the test of the time difference in a long-distance relationship.

We also decided that if any of us feels suffocated or bored in this relationship, we would be honest with each other and let the other person know. However, we will stay friends forever and it won't affect our relationship.

We don't know what the future holds for us but at this moment but whatever it is, we are happy to be online buddies for now.
