If you also want to burn calories but prefer staying in bed rather than going to the gym, then why not do something stormy in bed? Does sex help in burning calories? Is there truth in this? Let us find out!

Sex and calorie burning? Have you ever thought about both things together? If you haven't thought about it then think about it because it is a great way to spend your body's energy while also being a beautiful physical and emotional experience!

Research shows that having sex can have many positive consequences, including burning calories. A 2013 study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine found that on average, men can burn about 100 calories from sex and kissing, whereas women can burn about 69 calories in a 25-minute sex.

However, another 2009 study published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior assessed energy expenditure during various sexual activities and found that orgasms contributed significantly to calorie burning. In this process men burnt an average of 11 more calories during orgasm compared to non-orgasmic sex and women burnt 21 more calories.

Sex and calorie calculation

However, it is necessary to note that, sex and burning calories can be linked to not only having sex but it can be through other methods also, like this-

  1. Masturbating- During masturbation 150 calories in 30 minutes or about 5 calories per minute can be burnt
  2. Oral Sex- With this 112 calories in 30 minutes, or 3 to 4 calories per minute can be burnt
  3. A romantic dance- Dancing burns approximately 205 calories in 30 minutes, which is equal to approximately 6 calories per minute.
  4. When you caress your partner's body during kissing, calories are also burnt during that time. During this process, 150 calories are burnt in 30 minutes, or about 5 calories per minute.

Many other advantages too!

Apart from burning calories, sex also has many benefits, such as

  • Improves mood
  • Increases hormone secretion
  • Strengthen relationships
  • Keeps the body healthy

However, it is important to know about these benefits that sex should always happen with mutual consent, when both people are not only physically but also mentally ready to do it, then only the benefits of sex can be availed.

Then, no need for exercise?

It is important to note that Sex can burn calories but it is not the same as a sustained and major exercise. There is increased physical activity during sex, which burns some calories, but it is not the same as major exercise, involving multiple body parts and changing physical conditions.

Your heart rate increases during sex, which burns some calories, but it doesn't count as an exercise. Sex, along with any form of exercise and a healthy diet, can form part of a healthy and balanced lifestyle, but it isn't the only way to burn calories. If you aim to burn calories, regular exercise and following a balanced diet is a more effective way.
