Should I kiss him?

By Auntyji Tuesday, March 6, 2012 - 16:22
Q: I’m interested in a boy. We’ve been on a few dates together. I think he’s keen too. I want to move our relationship to the next level by kissing him. I’m worried he might think I’m too bold. Will it be okay to make the first move? Bandana, Kolkata

Auntyji says… Come here sweetheart, let me give you a tight hug first.

You have come across a rather widespread species, the timid Indian man. I so relate with you, because I too struggled with similar questions and similarly dumb boys too. So am going to share from my own personal experiences.

Taboo

As you might imagine, when I was your age, a girl making any kind of a move was major taboo. Not that things have changed a lot since then, but still, at least you kids now have many more private spaces. Mere time mien mein to, har kaam chori chori chupke chupke hota tha.

But getting back to your dilemma, a girl’s got to do what a girl’s go to do. Right? So I just went ahead and was rewarded. Every single time. And yes, you can quote me on this. Love might be a complex game, but its moves are pretty simple.

Build a gaze

Just put out (yes, pun intended) what you feel for this boy on the table. Maybe, just maybe, he’s the shy one, also wondering how you will react to his moves. So why don't you go ahead and kiss him? Or at least try to.

Just get the lips close together and build a gaze. In the worst-case scenario, you will have a kiss to remember, inshallah for the right reasons.

Instinct

Even though our society doesn’t approve of it, most boys like an assertive woman who knows what she’s doing. However, if you really want to play safe, study his body language, notice how he is behaving around you. Look out for accidental touches and dreamy gazing. Most of the time our instinct is right about such things.

So if you think he wants you as much as you want him, why wait? Neki kar, aur kuin mein daal.
