Saheli contraceptive pill

Saheli/Chhaya – the only non-hormonal birth control pill

Is Saheli (also known as Chhaya) the answer for young women who would like to take the pill but have trouble with side effects? Unless you live in India, you might not even have heard of this weekly birth control pill.

Since 1992, Hindustan Latex Limited has been selling Saheli to women all across India. Saheli is different from other birth control pills because it doesn’t contain any hormones. Instead of using the hormone estrogen to prevent pregnancy, it contains a drug that blocks estrogen.

Usually, increased doses of estrogen stop a woman’s ovaries from releasing an egg. However, by blocking estrogen in the uterus, Saheli alters the uterus’ lining, which prevents a fertilised egg from implanting.

No side effects

Blocking estrogen in the uterus comes with added benefits – it has no nasty hormonal side effects. Women who take Saheli don’t experience nausea, headaches, or changes in weight. They also find their periods are lighter.

Effective

Saheli is nearly as effective as the normal birth control pill. If it's taken consistently, fewer than 2 in 100 women get pregnant within the first year, compared to fewer than 1 in 100 women with hormonal pills. By comparison, your chances of getting pregnant without using any birth control method is 85 in 100.

Bi-weekly to weekly dose

You’ve got to take Saheli twice a week for the first three months. But after that you take just one pill a week.

What this means practically is that if your period starts on Monday, you take the pill every Monday and Thursday for the first three months. Starting on the fourth month, you only take it once a week every Monday.

All the benefits minus the side effects

Not surprisingly, Saheli is advertised as comparable to the pill with all the effectiveness of hormonal birth control minus its nasty side effects. With all these benefits, one has to wonder why it's only available in India.

Lekin yeh mahila ke masik dharm par asar kar saktee hai.. PLEASE in goliyoun ko laparvahi se istemaal mat keejiye. Aur apni pregnancy confirm karke ke liye ek phoren kisi vishagya ya achche panjikrit doctor se mililye. Lekin han extra marital affair mein sex ek doosra jokhim bhi laata hai, aur woh saamajik ya gharelu samasyaein bhi paida kar sakat ahai, umeed hai ki aapne in sab baaton ke visay mein theek so socha hai.

Ok so question is when did you have the unprotected sex? IF it is within the last 72 hours only then will any emergency contraceptive pill such as I Pill or Pill 72 work. Saheli is not the right option. If you have crossed 72 hours, then there is no use of any ECP pill either. Wait for 10 days and do a home pregnancy test. All the best
Bete saheli lagatr aur mahila ke periods date ke aunsaar li jane wali garbhnirodhan pill hai. jo ki doctor ki salah ke baad hi li jaani chhaiye. Aur yadi aap pregnancy ke risk se bachna chatay hai to kisi aur tarikay kay mukabley Condom ka istemal hi easy aur safe tarika hai http://lovematters.in/hi/resource/safe-sex
Bete, for your information let me tell you that emergency contraceptive pills work only till 72 hours after unsafe sex, infact the sooner the better. These pills may also affect the menstrual cycle of women. So please do not use them carelessly. Use condoms for safe sex and not these pills. Also, if you want you could go for a home pregnancy test which is taken ten days after unsafe sex. https://lovematters.in/en/resource/unplanned-pregnancy If you would like to join in on a further discussion on this topic, join our discussion board, "Just Ask" . https://lovematters.in/en/forum

Maybe you are talking about Emergency Contraceptive Pills. These are taken within 72 hours of unsafe sex. These are for emergency only and should be taken with caution as they affect a woman's menstrual cycle. If the sex was unsafe, then chances of pregnancy may be there. Take a home pregnancy test at the earliest. Then consult a registered doctor and see what can be done. Also, you can contact FPAI clinic information about which you can get at their website. https://lovematters.in/en/resource/unplanned-pregnancy https://www.fpaindia.org/ If you would like to join in on a further discussion on this topic, join our discussion board, "Just Ask” https://lovematters.in/en/forum
Kya aapka matlab pregnancy ko ek mahina hone se hain? Suniye Please. Jaldi se kisi visheshagya ya achchhe panjikrit doctor se miliye aur dekho kya ho sakta hai. Agar zyaada time nahi hua hoga to aap MTP ki maang kar sakte hai, kisi bhi clinic mein.Kisi bharosemand doctor ki rai leejiye aur kisi neem hakeen ya chemist ki baaton mein bilkul mat aa jaaiye – DOCTOR ONLY. https://lovematters.in/hi/resource/unplanned-pregnancy Iske alawa aap FPAI clinic se sampark kar sakte hai jiski jaankari aapko issi website pe mil jayegi. https://www.fpaindia.org Time mat gavaiye, jaldi keejie. No, it's certainly not ok. Withdrawal is not a very safe method of birth control. Even if the penis was in vagina for a short period of time, it’s still unsafe because a single sperm is enough for pregnancy. Renu bete though saheli has no side effects, all the same I'll suggest you to consult a good doctor for physical check-up which is really must. and look below link also. Take care http://lovematters.in/en/news/saheli-only-non-hormonal-birth-control-pill
I hv unprotected sex with my boyfriend aftr that i have taken saheli i just want to know that does it give me anyside effect r any further problem
Saheli is not a emergency contraceptive pill. If you had unprotected sex then just take the i-pill or After 72, then from next MC you should take Saheli First day and 5th day and continue for 3 months and there after take only one pill in a week.

can i start saheli at any time. I mean after completing my periods because my husband was using condom but i don't want. Now can i use saheli in place of that right now. or from which time i have ro start.????
Please meet a doctor before you begin… this is a bit complicated and you must get all information before you begin. No you can’t start anytime, it is linked with your periods start and finish date.
IMMEDIATELY do a Home pregnancy test. F it turns positive, ie you have conceived, then go to a Good registered doctor and talk to her, take her advise. In an early preganancy we can regulate menstruation with the use of medicines, BUT only under guidance of a doctor. Take your partner with you, for sure and do as the doctor says. HURRY UP, do that home test today.
can i start saheli after 10 days of periods. Actually I was taking another pil named as overal in these days, but now I want to stat using saheli. Please suggest me???
