It was Christmas night. Even in the cold air of Delhi, something soft and gentle was mixed in. Stars were twinkling in the sky, and the sound of church bells was spreading far and wide. That night, Ananya and Kabir were sitting across from each other in an old café—both a little nervous, a little curious.
Ananya and Kabir had met a year ago. It started with friendship, then long conversations, late-night messages, and slowly an unspoken feeling began to grow. But as closeness increased, questions about the relationship also started coming up. There was love, but along with love there was desire, physical attraction, and fear too. “What if we start wanting too much?” “What if you change?” These questions were not in just one mind, but in both of them.
So they decided to give each other time without rushing in love or relationships. They did not want to take any step that might later make either of them regret getting close to the other.
Kabir and Ananya kept meeting on weekends, talking for hours, and going out together. During this time, one day they decided to spend some moments alone, so Kabir booked a hotel room. Both of them were very excited about meeting like this, but somewhere in Ananya’s mind there was fear, because this was the first time she would be alone in a room with a boy. She thought to herself, “I have told Kabir before that I have never been this close to any boy. I don’t know what he will think about me.”
Finally, with many confusions in her mind, Ananya and Kabir were together in the hotel room. But Ananya looked a bit uneasy, and Kabir too was confused about where and how to begin. First, they talked about random things, then slowly tried to touch each other. But they did not feel that kind of bonding. Suddenly, both Ananya and Kabir said together, “Let’s leave it for today.” They decided to understand each other a little more and respect each other’s comfort zone before taking any step forward. When Ananya heard Kabir say this, she could not believe at first that a boy could be so mature. That day, her respect for Kabir grew a little more. They talked openly, tried to understand each other from the heart, and made their relationship and trust stronger.
On Christmas evening, Kabir said, “I don’t just want you from my heart. Your closeness matters to me.”
Ananya lowered her eyes and replied, “For me too. But I want all this to happen with trust and respect.”
Leaving the café, they walked to Kabir’s flat. The room had soft yellow light, and a slow carol was playing in the background. They touched each other, but without any hurry, and soon everything became normal again. Still, in that first touch, there was both a question and permission.
That night, it was not just bodies that came together, but fears and desires were shared too. Ananya realized that sex is not just about desire, but also about communication. Kabir understood that love does not mean just taking, but also respecting the other person’s thoughts.
In the morning, when the church bells rang again, both of them were standing near the window. There was no snow outside, but the city was decorated. Smiling, Ananya said, “This Christmas is special for me because today I understood myself and you a little more.”
Kabir held her hand and said, “Maybe this is love—where there is no wall between the heart, the body, and conversations.”
On that Christmas morning, they realized that relationships are not perfect, but if there is honesty, consent and love, they can be truly beautiful. And that was the biggest gift of that Christmas.
