Tips: Using a matrimonial site

Whatever the reasons, you've decided to sign up for a matrimonial website. What next? Love Matters has a few tips on how you choose the person you want to meet...
  1. Find the right site
There are a lot of matrimonial sites out there with a range of functionalities. The trick is to find the right one that suits you. It might be a good idea to try out the trial period on a few websites and see which one works best for you before you sign in for a paid service.
  2. Be yourself
The anonymity of the Internet makes it easy to present yourself in the best possible light, but when you finally meet your prospective spouse, it would be embarrassing when the reality doesn't match up to your online profile. Use a recent profile picture and be honest in your profile description. Don't be too concerned with the way you look. You'll definitely find someone who finds you attractive and interesting just as you are.
  3. Present yourself
Your profile is an opportunity for you to share who you are with everyone else. Let others know who you are and what you're looking for. Keep it upbeat. Update your profile with the recent happenings in life. Keeping your profile fresh will lead to more replies. Wouldn't you rather read something funny or real? Break out of your comfort zone and share the real you!
  4. Scan profiles carefully
You can tell a lot about a person from their online profile. Pay attention to the language, grammar, spelling, vocabulary etc. Is (s)he talking in general terms about hobbies and interests? Is her/his profile picture casual or has (s)he made an effort to look good in his photo? If it's a blank profile, don't try to fill in the gaps yourselves, it can only lead to disappointment. Eliminating those who are not compatible with you is the key to finding a partner online.
  5. Meet quickly
While e-mail is a great way to get to know another person. Don't waste too much time on e-mailing back and forth. A few e-mails should be able to get you an insight into the person. Take it up a step and speak over the phone and then meet each other.
  6. Be nice
No one expects you to be in a great mood all the time, but that's no reason to take your bad temper out on people who are trying to reach out to you. Whether by e-mail or over chat or even in person, if you feel that it's not working for you, tell them nicely. Don't just ignore and delete it. Remember, you get what you receive.
  7. Listen to them
Pay attention to people when they are communicating with you, to what they're saying and what they're trying to say. Some people will just be out to impress them and really listening to them will help you avoid getting duped. If you're meeting them, pay attention to what their body language says. The more you listen, the better you will be at eliminating the ones you're not interested in and at identifying the good ones.
  8. Have patience
Don't be in too much of a rush to find your spouse on a matrimonial website and settle for someone. It's better to take your time and take it slow rather than finding yourself married to the wrong person. Find out all you can about the man or woman you're interested in. Find out what your deal breakers are and don't let anyone sway you: Family, friends or colleagues. Be firm in what you are looking for and you'll find it sooner or later.
