Aunty ji, why do boys send pictures of their private parts in the inbox?

By Auntyji Thursday, March 20, 2025 - 16:27
Aunty ji, I am very upset because a few days ago an unknown boy sent a picture of his penis on my Instagram account. What should I do… I blocked him but why do boys do this? -Sneha, Delhi

Sneha beta, you are not alone. Nowadays, the internet is full of boys sending their pictures without permission. Sending private photos without consent is not just wrong but also inappropriate and unacceptable. But who will explain this to these boys? They think that girls will get excited just by looking at a picture of their penis but sadly, that never happens, beta.

Why does this keep happening?

Now, Sneha puttar, let me tell you why some people do this-

  • For attention – Boys think someone will be impressed by their photo. But sadly beta, this is just their misunderstanding.
  • To show off masculinity – Some people have a strange habit of proving their manliness by sending pictures of their private parts to girls.
  • To ask for sex – Even today, some boys believe that girls will fall for them just by seeing their penis but they don’t realize that girls are not impressed by such things.

Don’t panic, follow these steps

Sneha beta, if boys do this, there’s no need to panic. Just take these steps-

  • Block them– Every social media platform has a block option. Use it and get rid of them in seconds. Just block them directly.
  • Report them – Social media has a ‘Report’ option. Use it to get their account banned. You can also ask others to report them.
  • Ignore them – If you don’t want to block them, just ignore them. They only want attention—don’t give it to them.
  • Take help from cyber police– If needed, report them to cyber police. This is harassment, and action can be taken against it.

And yes, Sneha beta, you are the boss of your own mental peace. Don’t let unnecessary things affect your mind!

How to make the internet safe?

Many people like you must be thinking about how to stay safe on the internet. There are some simple steps that can keep you and others safe:

  • Turn on ‘Only Friends' option - Allow only those people on your social media to message you who are on your list.
  • Keep your profile private - Do not allow strangers to see your posts.
  • Avoid talking to strangers - If a stranger starts talking weird to you, block him immediately.
  • Keep screenshots - You can take screenshots as this will give you proof and if there is a need to report, you can show it to him.

Feeling angry

Look, beta, it's completely normal to feel angry, confused or even scared. Anyone would feel disturbed by this and it is totally wrong. But remember, “it’s not your fault”. It’s the dirty mindset and shamelessness of those boys.

If you feel like talking, share it with a trusted friend or family member. Sometimes, sharing your feelings makes you feel lighter.

Why don't such people feel ashamed?

Now, Sneha beta, you might wonder Aunty ji, don’t they feel ashamed?

The truth is, such people don’t show their face and believe that sending a photo of their penis won’t cause any trouble. They think no one can catch them, so they can send anything but the reality is, everything can be traced online. The ‘cybercrime department’ can take action against them.

Also, in our society, boys are often given a free hand to do whatever they want. Many people think this is just ‘fun’ or a ‘joke’ but in reality, this is sexual harassment. Those who do this don’t realize how badly it can affect someone’s mental health.

The law is on your side!

And now listen to one more important thing from me - if someone sends you a picture of your private part without your consent, then it is a crime. There are strict laws for this in India. It is considered a crime under IT Act 67A and IPC sections 354A, 292 and 509, and the guilty can be jailed for 3 to 5 years and fined. If such a picture is sent to a girl or a minor, then the punishment can be even more severe. If this happens to you, then do not sit quiet, keep the evidence safe and complain to the cyber crime portal (cybercrime.gov.in) or the police.
