- Being together: Valentine's Day is about being with the person you love most in the world. It's not about dinner in a five star hotel, diamonds or expensive champagne. Don't get too obsessed about what you are doing. As long as you are together, you will have a good time.
- Plan it out: While you don’t need to obsess over planning your activities for Valentine’s Day, don't wait until the last moment either. Generally, most places fill up well in advance and you might end up going somewhere just for the sake of it. Don't start planning for Valentine's Day on February 14.
- Go home-made with your gifts: Spending money is not the only way to show your love. Make him a hand drawn card, or cook her favourite dessert or make each other CDs of your favourite love songs. There's no need to bankrupt yourself over the gift. It's the meaning behind the gift that counts.
- Surprise your partner: It's not a rule that Valentine's Day has to be dinner, chocolates and flowers. Surprise your significant other with a book they've been dying to read, or a weekend away at a resort. You can even have a little friendly competition by going bowling! If you've never done it, write a love note expressing your feelings on paper.
- Keep your phone away: Don't look at your Facebook, Twitter or Instagram during your time together. There's plenty of time the next day to share the photos you've taken together. Instead focus on each other and the love that you are out celebrating.
- Don't compare: Your friend may have received gold earrings or the very latest fancy phone out on the market, and you too may receive the same, but if your partner doesn't have the budget for it, it could hurt your partner's feelings as well as their pride in something they may have got you which could be really thoughtful! Instead make the conversation revolve around you and your special memories and moments.
- Pick a different day: If you've suddenly realised Valentine's Day is only a few days away and you are too tired and stressed to plan anything special, talk to your partner about it and pick another day to celebrate!
- Find love on Valentine's Day: Single? If there's someone you like, Valentine's Day is the perfect opportunity to ask them out for a movie or lunch. It's the perfect opportunity to tell them how you feel.
- Have fun: Being single doesn't mean you stay home on Valentine's Day, instead gather up your single friends and go out and have some fun! It's a great chance for you to meet other Valentine's Day singles. And even if you don't, you still have many more days to meet someone new!
