Female anus: Read before anal sex

The anus is the opening of your bowel - where the stool comes out.

The anus is sensitive, which is why some people include it in their lovemaking.

You can stroke your partner’s anus when you make love, or your own when you masturbate. It can also feel nice if your anus is licked. Some people like having a penis or fingers inside their anus. This is called anal sex.

If you would like to include anal sex in your lovemaking, wash your anus with mild soap and water first. Some people also prefer to take an enema or laxative suppository before having anal sex to clean out the bowels, so their partner doesn’t get stool on their penis or finger. Infection

If you’re a woman, make sure you don’t touch your anus and then your vagina. Bacteria from the bowel region can get inside the vagina, causing a bladder infection. If your partner is performing anal sex, make sure he knows not to take his penis out of your anus and put it straight into your vagina. This too can spread the bacteria.

Anal sex can also lead to spread of sexually transmitted infections, if one of the partner is already infected or carrying the virus responsible for the infection. So to prevent STIs, it is important to wear a condom and be certain of your partner’s STI status.
