Unfortunately, when we are young and foolish 'love' is thrown around freely as a pretext to get into a women's pants and women are too full of foolish gender stereotypes about being forgiving/ accommodating and generally 'feminine' and not noticing or acting decisively enough with regard to the 'obvious signs'.
